Partnerships & Performance Scrutiny Panel Visit the CCU

Members of Staffordshire County Council Partnerships and Performance Scrutiny Panel visited the Civil Contingencies Unit at Stafford yesterday (Wednesday 12 November 2008) in order to gain a better understanding of Resilience arrangements in Staffordshire.

Having received a short presentation from Director of Civil Contingencies Andy Marshall, the group were given a demonstration of the capabilities of the Police and CCU's Mobile Command Units and in particular how they could be used to provide support in an emergency.

The highlight of the visit was a demonstration by the Police of the Remote Controlled "Drone" which has recently been purchased jointly by the Police, Fire Service and the CCU and will be available to provide real time aerial photography and video footage from the scene of an emergency.

Andy Marshall said, "Staffordshire County Council is a key partner in making Staffordshire Prepared and it is important that elected members have an opportunity to see first hand how the CCU fits in."
