How your Local Authority and the Staffordshire Civil Contingencies Unit can help
The promotion of Business Continuity Management is a responsibility placed on all Local Authorities by the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. Local Authorities and the Staffordshire Civil Contingencies Unit can assist the business and voluntary community by providing initial business continuity information and advice on where further assistance can be obtained. They, and we, can provide general advice but for specific advice such as preparation and checking of plans, etc, contact the Business Continuity Institute, who hold a register of approved BCM consultants. Their website details can be found in the Useful Websites section.

Staffordshire Civil Contingencies Unit have also produced a leaflet containing advice on Business Continuity, which summarises the key information.

Another useful document is the 10 minute assessment from the London Prepared website, which can be used to evaluate your current level of planning and gain an understanding of things to consider in Business Continuity Planning.

BCI North Midlands Forum
The North Midlands Forum is one of the most successful and well attended of the BCI's regional forums. Quarterly meetings allow members to share knowledge, experiences and best practice and to keep abreast of the latest issues and thinking in BCM. The forum is open to all BCI members. Founder and current chairman Andy Osborne, from the midlands-based BCM consultancy Acumen, would be delighted to talk to potential new forum members. Andy can be contacted on 01386 834455 or at aosborne@acumen-bcp.co.uk.
