Business Continuity Advice - Swine Flu
As the number of confirmed swine flu cases continues to grow within Staffordshire (albeit slowly), so will the potential risk for all organisations in the county. For this reason, robust business continuity plans are essential. The public sector is preparing well but the picture is less clear in the private sector, particularly small businesses that will probably be the hardest hit if the current pandemic gathers pace.
Business Link has compiled some excellent information and services for businesses and we are pleased to provide a direct link to their swine flu advice pages:

In summary, businesses should follow the following key steps:
• Ensure those with flu-like symptoms are asked to go home immediately, and call their GP if they are concerned about having swine flu
• Ensure staff don't return to work while showing symptoms - staff will be infectious in this period
• Encourage good hand hygiene - cough or sneeze into a tissue, dispose of it promptly, wash hands thoroughly
• Make sure your business continuity plans are up-to-date and include procedures for operating with a 35% absence rate
