Ever thought of a career in Civil Contingencies?
Civil Contingencies is an important and growing area of expertise. At the Staffordshire Civil Contingencies Unit, we are building for the future. To do that, we will continue to invest in high calibre people to join our team of Civil Contingencies Officers.
What does a Civil Contingencies Officer do?
Our Civil Contingencies Officers provide specialist support to organisations such as Local Authorities, the NHS and the Emergency Services on all matters relating to the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
On a day to day basis, this could involve writing and reviewing plans, running practical training and exercises or reviewing Staffordshire's major risks (such as flooding or pandemic flu). Our Civil Contingencies Officers also take their turn to provide 24-hr on-call support, ready to come to the assistance of our partner organisations in the event of an Emergency.
The work is varied, challenging and, at times, high pressure. In return, we offer excellent rates of pay, flexible benefits and a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a difference to the communities of Staffordshire.
What skills does a Civil Contingencies Officer need?
Our Civil Contingencies Officers come from a range of backgrounds. For example, some have previous careers in the Armed Forces or the Emergency Services and some join us from University or College with an academic grounding in Emergency Planning or Disaster Management. However, there is no 'must-have' background; we are more interested in your ability or development potential in key areas such as:
- Teamwork
- Leadership and problem solving under pressure
- Organisation and planning
- Drive and enthusiam
- Flexibility
- Communication
- Customer and Community focus
Above all, Civil Contingencies Officers must be totally committed to building a safer, stronger, more secure Staffordshire through every part of their work.
