Staffordshire’s Community Risk Register is the key tool in highlighting any risk areas that may need emergency response and recovery plans. From this Register Staffordshire Civil Contingencies Unit has prepared a number of multi agency plans for the county which are known as Staffordshire Prepared Plans. All agencies involved in mitigating the incident are part of the planning process and have an important role in resolving the incident.
Before any plan is deemed suitable to use it must be assessed and tested to see if it is fit for role. This is carried out by conducting exercises with suitable scenarios to ensure the plan is robust and flexible ensuring it is capable to mitigate the emergency incident it has been produced to deal with.
Each plan in reviewed on an annual basis to ascertain whether it is still fit for role. The plan will also be exercised every three years to ensure that it is still current. Any shortfalls or amendments are then incorporated into the plans and each Category 1 and Category 2 responder agency informed of the changes.
Below is some general information relating to a few of the key plans in place in Staffordshire.

National Emergency Plan for Fuel
HM Government recognise the importance of the maintenance of adequate road vehicle fuel supplies to sustain the UK economy.
During the summer of 2008 there were two, mainly localised, disruptions to fuel supplies in the UK following industrial action by workers in the energy sector. Although these disruptions were for only relatively short periods of time, this highlighted for many organisations the potential impact of a more significant fuel supply problem.
A Staffordshire Emergency Fuel Plan has been produced tailored to address the issues faced by the Staffordshire Local Authorities and Health Agencies in the event of a local or national fuel shortage.
Cabinet Office and The Department of Energy and Climate Change have produced some short guidance to assist organisations in planning for such disruptions. The guidance - Business Continuity Management for Fuel Shortages - is intended to sit alongside other business continuity management tools and assist organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors in planning for and managing the consequences of a disruption to fuel supplies.
