Welcome to 'Staffordshire Prepared'

This website has been produced to offer information for the people of Staffordshire, its visitors and businesses on preparations for, and responses to, emergencies and major incidents within Staffordshire.

The website supports the work of the Staffordshire Resilience Forum, or SRF.  The SRF has been established in response to the statutory requirements of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.  This stipulates that a meeting must be held at least once every 6 months in order to:

"…establish and maintain effective multi-agency arrangements to respond to major emergencies, to minimise the impact of those emergencies on the public, property and environment of Staffordshire, and to satisfy fully the requirements of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004".

The SRF is a multi-agency partnership made up of representatives from the county's public services, including the blue-light emergency services, County, City and District Authorities, the NHS, the Environment Agency and other partners.  The main multi agency partners of the SRF are known as Category 1 Responders, as defined by the Civil Contingencies Act.  The SRF is also assisted by wider partners such as the Military, the Voluntary Sector, the Highways Agency and the public utility companies.

The work of the SRF is supported by a network of Joint Agency Project Groups, or JAPGs, each of which brings together multi agency partners to deliver more detailed planning in areas such as Risk Management, Business Continuity Management and communicating with the public.

The SRF's Category 1 Responders also fund a specialist Civil Contingencies Unit, or CCU.  Based in Stafford, the CCU is a small team of specialist Civil Contingency Officers whose role is to provide advice, support and guidance to Category 1 Responders and to help build the wider resilience of Staffordshire.

Historically, the public authorities throughout Staffordshire have always had very strong working links; the Civil Contingencies Act has reinforced these.  As multi agency partners, we are determined to ensure that Staffordshire's public services are as prepared as possible for a large-scale civil emergency. Of course, we hope we are planning for something that will never happen.

It is important that we keep the public informed about our plans, which is why we have launched this website for that specific purpose. This site, which will be updated regularly, contains useful information on how you can do your bit to prepare for an emergency and what we will do to keep you fully informed.
