Know the risks in Staffordshire
Part of our job at the Staffordshire Resilience Forum (SRF) is to plan for emergencies. To do this, we must first understand the main risks our county faces. This process is called a 'risk assessment'.
This page explains how we identify and rate these risks. This helps us, and all our partners, to plan and prepare for them.
What is the Community Risk Register (CRR)?
The Community Risk Register (CRR) is a list of potential emergencies that could have the biggest impact on life, property, or the environment in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
We review this list regularly, based on national guidance and our local knowledge. It includes everything from natural hazards like flooding and heatwaves to technical failures like power cuts or industrial accidents.

How we rate risks
To help us prioritise our planning, we look at two things for each risk:
Likelihood: How likely is it to happen in the next few years?
Impact: If it did happen, how much disruption would it cause to people, our services, and the environment?
We plot these on a chart, often called a 'Risk Matrix', which shows us which risks are the highest priority to plan for. This is what our technical matrix looks like:
