Helping your community get prepared
In Staffordshire, our communities are our biggest strength. When an emergency happens, people are often considerate to their neighbours.
'Community Resilience' is about communities working together, using local skills and knowledge to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.
How your community can get prepared
A prepared community is a strong community. You don't have to do it alone. Many Parish Councils, local groups, faith groups, neighbourhood groups and Individuals work together to create their own 'Community Emergency Plans'.
These plans are simple guides that help your local area:
- Identify the main local risks (like a local stream that floods or an area with poor phone signal).
- Know where vulnerable neighbours live who might need extra help.
- List key local resources (like a village hall that could be used as a shelter, or residents with 4x4s who can help in heavy snow).
- Have contact details for local services and community leaders.
Remember that these plans can start simple and grow, bringing together people to help them get Involved from the start.
